Hugging Face launches open source AI assistant maker to rival OpenAI’s custom GPTs

Hugging Face, the leading provider of natural language processing (NLP) models and tools, has recently released a new product that allows anyone to create their own customized AI assistants using the open models of their choice. The product, called Hugging Face Assistants, is a free and open source alternative to OpenAI’s custom GPTs, which require a paid subscription and access to the exclusive GPT-3 API.

Hugging Face Assistants is built on top of Hugging Chat, the startup’s open source alternative to OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which lets users chat with various NLP models hosted on the Hugging Face Hub. With Hugging Face Assistants, users can easily share their favorite prompts for community models directly on Hugging Chat, and create personalized AI chatbots with specific capabilities, such as writing an email from a bullet list, coding a snake game, assisting in a task, or searching the web.

To create an AI assistant, users simply need to upload an avatar image, enter a name, a description, and a set of instructions for the AI to follow. Users can also choose from a list of existing assistants created by other users or by Hugging Face itself, such as a poetry generator, a trivia quizzer, a resume builder, or a meme maker. Users can then chat with their assistants on Hugging Chat, or embed them on their own websites or apps using a simple code snippet.

Hugging Face Assistants is powered by the Hugging Face Inference API, which provides fast and scalable access to over 10,000 NLP models from the Hugging Face Hub. Users can choose from a wide range of models, such as GPT-Neo, GPT-J, BART, T5, BlenderBot, DialoGPT, and more, and fine-tune them on their own data using Hugging Face Spaces, a web-based platform for hosting, training, and deploying NLP models.
